Hi fellow animal lovers,

Well, this is my first blog and I decided it was a good opportunity to share a little about myself and get to know my followers!

Confession Time!
I start my blog with a confession, I am the worlds clumsiest person with a penchant for falling! I am not really fussy about where or how, just drawn to the act of landing on my back and backside! Potholes, horses, stairs, my own feet, they will all hunt me down and lead me to the lowest surface!

Anyway.... the reason I chose to share my clumsy disorder is that it led me to the most wonderful woman, Wendy, owner of  'The Artist Palette', in Thirsk, Yorkshire.  After many years of drought in the area of art inspiration and loss of my beautiful horse 'Sparky' I went on a quest to begin drawing again.

My first portrait.....
With a little encouragement from Wendy to buy my first set of pastels and a lovely demo of an animal eye she gave me, I hobbled on crutches back to our caravan and put my hand to drawing our adorable dog 'Max'. I had some work to do but let my guard down and went back to see Wendy with my first portrait in hand for a critique. Her words were encouraging, I was hooked and never looked back! Thank you Wendy for giving me the confidence to continue.

Within 6 months I was receiving commission requests which led to Meralspetportraits and my love for drawing your wonderful friends from the animal kingdom.

As a thank you for following my work please head over to my Facebook page, Meralspetportraits and you can enter your pet or equine in my competition to win your very own portrait of your best furry friend.

Anyone else have a curious experience which led them to their destiny?!

I look forward to hearing your comments

Meral, you've blossomed as an artist and it is very kind of you to credit me with supplying a spark of inspiration! You have obviously worked very hard to perfect your skills, but you have more than skill...you also have natural talent, and that is something that cannot be taught. I wish you every success with your art, and feel sure you will be in constant demand! (Yorkshire folk think more of their animals than their kids!!)
